When Green Bay Packers star Rashan Gary tore his ACL in Week 9, many began to wonder just how much time he could potentially miss in 2023.
Well, when it comes to the regular season, he may miss any time.
That's because the Packers took Gary off of the PUP list on Monday, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Gary is cleared to practice and head coach Matt LaFleur said he'll be doing just that – except he won't participate in any team drills as they slowly work in him to prevent potential setbacks.
"He'll be out there and it's going to be more or less individual, maybe the walkthrough/jog-through," LaFleur told reporters Monday. "But he's not going to be in any team [drills]."
Many suspected Gary would return before Week 1, but, obviously, it wasn't guaranteed. The possibility was always there, however, so it's nice to see the vision come to life, so to speak.
"The whole plan the whole time, I believe, was when they get in here to put them on PUP and we'll see how fast we can get them off. Provided there's no setbacks, I would see them eventually coming off," LaFleur said as training camp opened a couple weeks ago.
It's obviously a huge boost for a Packers defense that's under pressure heading into the 2023 season. It's adamant Joe Barry and co. get off to a fast start and having one of their best players back by Week 1 will certainly help them hit the ground running.
