You can say what you want about Devin White, but it would be absolutely unfair to say that he is selfish when it comes in regards to his ongoing talks with the Buccaneers about an extension into the future, even if he did request a trade a few months back.

Despite requesting a trade and seeing little in return from Tampa in the form of a long-term deal or a trade, White chose to show up to training camp and has even addressed why he did what he did in what was probably the best way possible.

White did what he does best when talking about the situation; being very easy to like and root for. His comments today show exactly why:

White was extremely transparent with his reasoning. Sure, money does play a role in everything, but he did seem sincere in his desire to stay with the Bucs long term as much as he wanted to become one of the highest-paid backers in the league.

How many other guys in White's position throughout the league would want to stay in such a bad situation after their team took a nose-dive?

There is obviously still a lot for the Bucs and White to work through, especially with a lot of needs approaching in other areas, but this is a bit of good news for a Bucs team that that should take whatever it can get in that department.

White being there does make this defense better, and perhaps being on the field and having actual reps will push the two parties towards an amicable position when discussing the future.

As for White himself, while there is still a chance that he doesn't stay with the Bucs long-term, this is a sign of maturity for him to show that the team and winning come first, and that should play a role in White winning a C for his jersey again.

There are a lot of other players across the league that wouldn't handle this as well as White. The Buccaneers are lucky. Hopefully they can find a way to make the most of this situation.
