If the popular internet joke/meme "Never let them know what your next move is" was an NFL player, it would be former Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr.

Over the last couple of days, the current free agent has been at the center of a wild slew of reports each suggesting where he might end up only to be left without an answer right at the end.

Let us recap his unpredictable free agency so far.

  • On Tuesday, ESPN's Dianna Russini reported the New Orleans Saints "were expected to sign" Barr and running back Kareem Hunt.
  • Anthony Barr left New Orleans without a deal, however, as reported by Mike Garafolo from NFL Network.
  • Barr was then reportedly scheduled to visit the New York Giants, per Josina Anderson (CBS).
  • Giants general manager Joe Schoen told reporters that the visit wouldn't take place, citing a desire to get a better look at the younger linebackers instead.

In other words, Barr is headed to… who knows!? The last 24 hours have sure been messy for the linebacker, at least from a media point of view.

New Orleans columnist Jeff Duncan took to Twitter to state that "money wasn't the issue with Barr." It was for Hunt, who visited on the same day. The lack of clarity leaves us to wonder and speculate what was it that brought down the Saints' negotiations with Barr and the reason for the subsequent cancellation from the Giants.

Did it simply have to do with wishing to move on in another direction or is something up with Barr's physicals?

Again, this is nothing but pure speculation but at the moment, it's all we have to work with following such a weird series of events.

Earlier this offseason, I ranked Barr as one of the most likely reunions that could take place for the Cowboys. The logic was the fact that the team is thin at the position and could use that veteran presence even if it wasn't as a starter. The veteran started 10 games in Dallas last year.

However, the Cowboys appear set with what they've got, headlined by the underrated Leighton Vander Esch and second-year Damone Clark.
