Last season definitely didn't go the way most people thought it would. It started rough and continued to be rough, but it did get a bit better as the season went on. The offensive line got better and should pick up where they left off last season.

One thing that is sure to help them in that aspect is exactly what they are doing right now in practice. They are holding joint practices with the San Francisco 49ers, the best defense and the best defensive line in the league.

"It was good," offensive lineman Andre James said to the media on Thursday. "Those guys are really good defensive players, you know, it was a great opportunity for us to go out and face arguably one of the best defenses in the NFL. And that's what you want as a true competitor to face, like a good defense like that. So it's good work for us."

The 49ers have guys like Javon Hargrave, Arik Armstead, and Nick Bosa, that will give you nothing but problems. For the Raiders, there is no way that doesn't make them better going up against the best every day for the week, even when they play live action on Sunday in the first preseason game of the season.

James even saw someone on the 49er's defensive line he is a bit familiar with.

"It was cool, you know, Cle [Clelin Ferrell], he's my guy, we came in, and we were in the same draft class. So, it was cool seeing him, it sucks to see him in a different Jersey, but I'm glad to see him out there," James continued.

The Raiders offensive line didn't start the season great at all, as they gave up six sacks in their first game to the Los Angeles Chargers. Sure, it's easy to do that when guys like Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack put pressure on you all game, but that's still unacceptable.

They got much better as the season went on. They went from one of the worst units to maybe an average unit, nothing more than that. This year, with the continuity, and another year in the system, they could be better than average. These practices against the 49ers certainly help too.
