Seattle Seahawks named as the preeminent landing spot for WR K.J. Hamler

As a dynamic vertical threat, K.J. Hamler has a bounty of talent to offer, and the Seattle Seahawks were named the perfect fit for his skill set.

There is a world where the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks meet to talk trades again.

Expect, in this meeting, the two teams wouldn't be talking about trading a franchise quarterback. Instead, they'd discuss shedding roster spots for incoming rookies in the NFL Draft. So, naturally, Denver would be looking to move on from talented but often injured wide receiver, K.J. Hamler.

How likely another trade between these two franchises remains somewhat theoretical, but a recent Pro Football Focus article named Hamler as a "perfect fit" for Seattle for nothing other than his vertical gravity that could change the nature of the offense.

PFF didn't break down what a possible trade between the Broncos and the Seahawks for Hamler would look like, but it did name Seattle in a crop of potential landing spots for the wide receiver's services. The other teams named were the Los Angeles Chargers, Indianapolis Colts, and Cincinnati Bengals.

Seattle was named the perfect fit for numerous reasons, but the most important rationale was how Hamler's verticality would be to Geno Smith and Pete Carroll's system.

Take a look at what PFF had to write:

"Hamler is a prototypical vertical slot receiver — a player who can threaten deep at any time with a free release off the line. He may not be the most well-rounded receiver, but there are several teams in the league crying out for either the injection of speed, the threat deep downfield, or a slot option. His average depth of target was 24.9 yards downfield last season, and he had a career-low in yards per route run (1.06), as he was aligned out wide more often."

The downside to the Seahawks making a move for Hamler would be his injury history. He was only featured in six Broncos games in 2022. And a nagging series of hamstring and knee injuries led to a mere seven catches for 165 yards.

But when Hamler is healthy, the potential of his game pops. He has game-breaking athletic ability. He would also offer assurance for Smith, who is often looking to push the ball downfield.

The fit with Seattle is self-explanatory. But only time will tell if the Seahawks make a move for an additional wide receiver during the NFL Draft.
