After the Dallas Cowboys reunited edge rusher Dante Fowler with Quinn on a one-year deal on Tuesday, they inked former first-round pick Takk McKinley to a one-year agreement on Wednesday.
McKinley played his first seasons in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons, and Quinn was his head coach. McKinley played in 49 games with 25 starts over that span before he was waived in November 2020 and racked up 17.5 sacks, 48 quarterback hits, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.
In 2021, McKinley signed a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns but unfortunately suffered a torn Achilles tendon late in the season. He finished with 18 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 11 games.
McKinley played in four games for the Los Angeles Rams in 2022 but only logged 18 defensive snaps. Then, he was signed to the Cowboys practice squad last November but never took a snap although he was elevated to the active roster for one game.
This is another depth signing by the Cowboys which they have been busy doing this week after trading for five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Stephon Gilmore and wide receiver Brandin Cooks last week. If McKinley can find a role coming off the edge, a strength for the Cowboys will get even stronger.
