Seattle Seahawks meet privately with Alabama QB Bryce Young
The Seattle Seahawks’ brain trust is meeting with Alabama QB Bryce Young on Thursday. They met with C.J. Stroud on Wednesday.
Despite signing Geno Smith and Drew Lock, the Seattle Seahawks are doing their due diligence when analyzing quarterbacks in the 2023 NFL Draft.
First reported by Albert Breer of The Monday Morning QB, the Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, general manager John Schneider, offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, and quarterback's coach Greg Olsen will meet with Alabama quarterback Bryce Young on Thursday in a private meeting.
The group met with Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud on Wednesday in Columbus.
After signing both quarterbacks that were on the roster last season, it was believed that Seattle wouldn't look to spend a high draft pick on yet another quarterback.
Still, it appears Seattle is tossing around using the No. 5 selection via its trade with the Denver Broncos last season on a young quarterback prospect.
It is a move that does make sense. After signing Smith to a three-year deal that was more team-friendly than Smith-friendly, it was clear the length of the idea,l and the dollar amount indicated a belief that last year's starter is nothing more than a bridge quarterback to Seattle.
When thinking rationally about if Seattle will take a quarterback, however, it feels like the Seahawks are a longshot to even land one of Stroud or Young.
In most NFL mock drafts, those two are the first quarterbacks off the board. And in most mock drafts, those two are gone well before pick No. 5 emerges.
Still, draft night is a weird time in the NFL. Stranger things have happened. NFL teams could overthink a selection and a talented quarterback begins falling further down the draft board.
But that isn't a guarantee.
So you have to believe that Seattle is merely doing its due diligence. During the NFL combine, Carroll let a crowded room full of reporters know that the Seahawks are very attached and in communication with this year's crop of quarterbacks.
He opined that having a top selection as the Seahawks was a "rare opportunity." And now, on the surface, it looks like he is making the most of this chance at a franchise-level arm talent.
