The New England Patriots elected not to re-sign a second free-agent wide receiver Friday.
Former Patriots wideout Nelson Agholor signed a one-year, $3.25 million contract with up to $3 million in incentives with the Baltimore Ravens, The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec reported.
The Patriots signed Agholor to a two-year, $22 million contract in 2021. He caught 68 passes for 835 yards with five touchdowns in two seasons, including just 31 receptions for 362 yards with two touchdowns in 16 games and seven starts last season.
Agholor, 29, joins Rashod Bateman, Devin Duvernay, James Proche, Tylan Wallace, Andy Isabella, Shemar Bridges and Mike Thomas on the Ravens’ wide receiver depth chart.
The Patriots currently have wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster, DeVante Parker, Kendrick Bourne, Tyquan Thornton, Lynn Bowden, Tre Nixon and Raleigh Webb on their 90-man roster. They have been tied to potential trades for DeAndre Hopkins and Jerry Jeudy and were present for Ohio State wide receiver prospect Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s pro day.
It always seemed like a longshot that Agholor would re-sign with New England, but the Patriots could still use one more speedy wide receiver to replace him.
The Patriots’ remaining free agents include offensive tackles Isaiah Wynn and Marcus Cannon, cornerback Joejuan Williams and punter Michael Palardy.
Agholor entered the NFL as a first-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft with the Philadelphia Eagles. He won a Super Bowl with the Eagles over the Patriots.
