The Green Bay Packers received some positive news to start the first full month of the offseason
The Green Bay Packers received some good news to start the month of March.
According to Sports Illustrated's Bill Huber, Packers defensive back Eric Stokes is "ahead of schedule" and expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
Stokes missed the final eight games of the 2022 season while dealing with an ankle injury.
A source told Huber that Stokes hasn't had any setbacks in his recovery from the ankle injury.
“Eric has had zero setbacks and is ahead of schedule,” a source said. “He plans to be in Green Bay for the offseason program to continue his rehab and training. There is no set timetable for him to be back at 100 percent, but he is not expected to miss any portion of camp.”
Stokes, a first-round pick by the Packers in 2021, had an excellent rookie season in Green Bay. But things didn't go quite as smoothly for him before his injury in 2022.
Of course, things weren't really going smoothly for anyone in Green Bay during the first half of the season. So fans probably shouldn't hold the rough first part of the season against Stokes. He earned some equity with his stellar play in 2021 as a rookie.
The NFL, however, is a "what have you done for me lately?" league, so Stokes will have to prove again in 2023 that he's a quality starting NFL cornerback. But until players hit the field this fall, there should be some trust that Stokes will return to playing at a high level.
