Vikings interview one of the draft's top QB prospects at combine
The Minnesota Vikings interviewed one of the 2023 NFL Draft’s most intriguing quarterback prospects.
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins might be feeling a little nervous after Thursday's news.
According to Darren Wolfson, the Vikings met with Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson at the combine in Indianapolis this week.
Richardson is viewed by many draft analysts as a potential top 10 selection in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Richardson is a raw player with a ton of upside. He has the physical skills to be a star in the NFL, but he still has a lot to prove as a football player.
At some point, the Vikings have to start pondering life after Cousins.
Cousins will turn 35 before the start of the 2023 season. And he's not a guy that fits into that Aaron Rodgers/Tom Brady category of quarterbacks who can be trusted to play into their late 30s/early 40s (or in Brady's case, mid-40s).
Minnesota has the No. 23 pick in the first round. Based on current projections, Richardson isn't falling to No. 23.
And it seems unlikely that the Vikings would trade into the top 10 for a quarterback that has plenty of question marks.
Of course, it's not a given that Richardson will go that early. Remember, it was just last year that Malik Willis was going top 10 in some mock drafts and he ended up falling to the third round.
The Vikings could be hoping for a similar scenario with Richardson.
I imagine Minnesota will keep their eyes open for a potential successor to Cousins, but I doubt they'll be trading up to make it happen. The only way Richardson lands with the Vikings is if he falls further in the draft than expected.
