Cowboys met with one of the top CB prospects in the draft
The Cowboys are leaving no stone unturned when it comes to the cornerback position by meeting with Devon Witherspoon out of Illinois
The Dallas Cowboys have their CB1 in Trevon Diggs and found another gem in DaRon Bland in last year's draft.
While that's a nice twosome to have, the Cowboys need more at the cornerback position, especially with the uncertain futures of Anthony Brown and Jourdan Lewis who suffered season-ending injuries in 2022.
Dallas is doing all it can at the NFL combine in Indianapolis to add talent on the backend in April's draft. That was proven by their meeting with cornerback Devon Witherspoon out of Illinois, who many feel is the top guy at the position coming out of the college ranks.
Witherspoon had his media session delayed to due some medical things he had to take care of.
Once Witherspoon made it to the podium to take questions, he was asked about what teams he met with formally. When the Cowboys were mentioned, he had this to say.
"Yes, I just met with the Cowboys last night," said Witherspoon. "It went good. They just asked me a couple of questions. They love the way I play."
Everyone who watches Witherspoon does. Not only is he a top man-to-man coverage guy but he isn't afraid to show support in the run game.
Witherspoon had three interceptions and 14 pass breakups in 2022 for the Fighting Illini while not allowing a single touchdown. Also, quarterbacks only had a rating of 25.3 against Witherspoon which is mind-blowing.
Witherspoon was a Consensus All-American and a first-team All-Big Ten selection last season which is why he's a projected top-10 pick.
It would take a mini miracle for the Cowboys to snag Witherspoon with the 26th overall, but that's the price of success in the NFL. However, the draft is unpredictable at times, so anything can happen.
