Recent NFL news gives Giants a nice boost heading into free agency
The Giants have plenty of cap space and plenty of decisions to make, which should make for a fun offseason
The New York Giants are entering a crucial offseason thanks to 2022's success and several upcoming decisions involving key players.
Therefore, they'll take any help they can get.
Well, the NFL Players Association did just that earlier this week when it released its first-ever NFL Player Team Report Cards. Per the NFLPA, the overall goals of the report cards "were to highlight positive clubs, identify areas that could use improvement, and highlight best practices and standards".
The grades were composed of players currently employed by the franchise. Players who used to play for the Giants or play for other teams weren't allowed to vote on Giants-specific categories.
And the Giants cleaned up in terms of their grades:
| Category | Grade |
|---|---|
Treatment of Families | B+ |
Nutrition | B+ |
Weight Room | B+ |
Strength Staff | B+ |
Training Room | B+ |
Training Staff | A+ |
Locker Room | B |
Travel | A- |

The main objective of the report cards is "to not only help them make important career decisions, but also help raise standards across the league" and it's the former talking point that matters most in regard to this context.
Part of making important career decisions in the NFL is what a player does in free agency. Too many times we've seen accomplished players go to new teams just to see their career flounder. Granted, there are typically a lot of circumstances that factor into a situation like that, but, it's not illogical to think the organizational infrastructure plays a big role in most cases.
Otherwise, there probably wouldn't be a need for these report cards.
Players are going to see how well the Giants graded out. The Giants also have over $46 million in cap space without counting the $6.7 million they'll get back after they release WR Kenny Golladay.
In other words: the Giants have plenty of cash to spend.
The Giants already have their storied franchise history. They also have a very good coaching staff in Brian Daboll and co. Plus, the business and marketing opportunities that come with being associated with a NY team are second to none.
So, it's even easier to see why players reporting positive things about the franchise in general will give the Giants a big boost heading into free agency.
And they should reap the benefits, greatly, as a result.
