Patriots release ex-Titans lineman
Hayden Howerton originally signed with the Patriots in November
The New England Patriots cleared a spot on their roster Friday by waiving offensive lineman Hayden Howerton, the team announced Friday afternoon.
Howerton spent training camp with the Tennessee Titans before being waived at the end of the summer. He signed to the Patriots’ practice squad Nov. 1 and netted a future contract with New England on Jan. 10.
Howerton went undrafted out of SMU last year. He started 53 games in his college career.
The Patriots still have offensive linemen David Andrews, Trent Brown, Chasen Hines, Conor McDermott, Michael Onwenu, Kody Russey, Andrew Stueber and Cole Strange on their roster. They also signed Bill Murray to a future contract in January.
Howerton was a long shot to make the roster. If he clears waivers, he will become a free agent.
