Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Cedric Tillman made a statement at the NFL Draft combine in Indianapolis this week that opposing fans — especially opposing SEC fans — won't like.

Tillman is aware of the Vols' historical reputation as "Wide Receiver U".

And he thinks that moniker still applies.

The former Vols standout declared at the combine on Friday that Tennessee is the real "Wide Receiver U".

That's a statement that opposing fans — especially LSU fans (it's hard to argue against Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase) — probably won't like.

The Vols have some work to do to regain the title of "Wide Receiver U", but they're certainly on their way.

A year ago, the Chicago Bears selected former Vol Velus Jones Jr in the third round of the draft. This year, Jalin Hyatt is expected to be a first-round pick. Tillman will be at least a second-round pick. They'll look to join Josh Palmer and Marquez Callaway as productive former Tennessee wide receivers in the NFL.

In the coming years, Vol wide receivers Bru McCoy, Squirrel White, Ramel Keyton, and Dont'e Thornton should also be drafted.

Where will Cedric Tillman be drafted?

Tillman, who missed half of his senior season because of an ankle sprain he suffered in an early-season win against Akron, is expected to be a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The former Vol, however, has displayed first-round talent with his elite body control and ability to stretch the field vertically. If he goes in the second round or later, some NFL team will be getting a hell of a steal.
