One trade that can jumpstart the Giants receiving room
The receiver revamp should start with a veteran.
There are certainly more pressing matters in New York right now, with major questions surrounding the future of the backfield.
Both Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley are working through negotiations with the Giants, but the one skill position not being talked about is wide receiver.
Daniel Jones will be back in New York regardless of how the next 24 hours go, meaning he's going to need better pass catchers in 2023.
Insert Allen Robinson.
I know some of you Giants fans may have just spit out your coffee, but give me a second to expound.
For one, the compensation for Robinson would be next to nothing, with the Giants giving up a late-day three pick at most. Ok, but what about his repulsive guaranteed money and cap hit?
Luckily, the Rams are willing to pay part of his salary, with a contract restructure on deck upon his trade destination and the Giants in a favorable cap position.
Now that the financial aspect has been cleaned up, we have to address the player himself. I know this is giving Giants fans a bad case of deja vu, with the Kenny Golladay scars still fresh but bear with me.
Yes I know he's coming off a down year and an injury, but Robinson is only two seasons removed from 100 receptions and 1250 yards and is on the right side of 30.
Be honest Giants fans, you don't have any receiver on the team that's proven to be better than Robinson and it's not as if the free agency pool is Olympic-sized.
Sure, there's a 25th overall pick and four other selections in the top 130 coming in April's draft but there's a catch.
This is one of the more underwhelming receiver drafts in the past five seasons, with the top of the group likely to be long gone by 25.
That means New York would be trying to play 1970s offense again with a mush of low-tier veterans and mid-round rookies.
So before you take your anger out on your laptop, really consider the possibility of Robinson in Giants blue.
I know the front office will be.
