The Cincinnati Bengals already roster a dynamic college duo in Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase.

But why stop there?

Burrow and Chase won a National Championship at LSU along with running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Adding him to the mix would only strengthen the Bayou Bengals squad in Cincinnati.

The only problem is that CEH is still with the Kansas City Chiefs for at least one more year. At least that's what his contract states.

NFL insider Jeremy Fowler recently reported that some teams are keeping tabs on Edwards-Helaire in case Kansas City decides to trade the veteran running back.

Some teams have running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire on their radar as a potential trade option, though I don't believe Kansas City is actively shopping him. It could be more of a "we will listen" situation.

From the perspective of 31 other teams, it makes sense why the Chiefs should be open to trading their first-round pick from the 2020 NFL Draft. Edwards-Helaire appeared in just 10 games during his third season, registering 224 offensive snaps before suffering a high-ankle sprain in Week 11. Seventh-round rookie Isiah Pacheco was well on his way to establishing himself as the offense's main tailback by then, which led to Edwards-Helaire being made a healthy scratch for Super Bowl LVII.

Now entering his fourth year in the league, the former SEC stud is set to count for $3.4 million against the salary cap this year as a reserve running back. That probably won't fly.

The most the Chiefs could reasonably ask for in a trade is a (very) late-round pick. No club would be willing to offer more for a ballcarrier whose production has only decreased since being drafted.

This could ultimately lead to Edwards-Helarie's release, which is where a team like the Bengals would come in.

On top of the Burrow and Chase connection, Cincinnati needs some new blood at running back. Joe Mixon could be out the door shortly, Samaje Perine is set to hit free agency next week, and there's not much else on the depth chart. Edwards-Helaire could come in on an affordable contract, and feel right at home working next to his collegiate QB from 2019.

The Bengals are primed to address the running back position this offseason with Mixon's future up in the air, and a talented draft class set to enter the league. Adding Edwards-Helaire to the mix would be a solid start to the process.
