Raiders officially place the franchise tag on RB Josh Jacobs
It was bound to happen eventually.
With recent news surfacing following the Las Vegas Raiders, something was finally confirmed that we all knew would happen.
Earlier last week there was a report that said if the Raiders and Josh Jacobs camp couldn't come to an agreement by March 6, the team would have to franchise tag Jacobs.
Well, it's March 5 and the Raiders franchise tagged Jacobs. Tagging Jacobs means he will earn roughly $11 million this year but on a one-year deal, per Pro Football Network.
PFN also stated that by declining Jacob's fifth-year option that would have paid him $8 million, the Raiders are paying him more now.
Now, this could mean a handful of things. Maybe they thought last year was an anomaly, and they aren't entirely confident he can string together multiple seasons like that.
Getting tagged could also cause Jacobs to sit out of camp, as we have seen players do in the past. It doesn't mean he will, but it's a possibility.
We knew this was likely going to happen, especially given how the running back market has been as of late with star running backs and long-term contracts, but now it's official.
