Packers veteran makes strong statement about Aaron Rodgers
The Green Bay Packers are still waiting to hear if Aaron Rodgers plans to play in 2023
The Green Bay Packers are still waiting to hear from Aaron Rodgers on whether or not he plans to play in 2023 (and if he wants to play for Green Bay or another team).
NFL Network's Rich Eisen said this week that he heard at the NFL Draft combine in Indianapolis that the Packers are hoping that Rodgers doesn't want to return to Green Bay in 2023.
While we can't know for sure if what Eisen heard is true or not, we at least know what one key Packers player thinks about the Rodgers situation.
Pro Bowl running back Aaron Jones, a teammate of Rodgers for the last six seasons, made it clear this week how he feels about Rodgers.
"I hope he is not going nowhere," said Jones on NFL Network's Good Morning Football on Tuesday. "Especially not Vegas. You know he played with Tae (Davante Adams), so I hope that wouldn't happen. He's my quarterback, so I hope he's back. If he's back, we are ready to ball with him. If not, then we have Jordan Love, who's more than capable. And he's ready to ball as well and ready for his shot."
Rodgers is pretty much in control of his destiny. If he wants to play for Green Bay, they can't really trade him.
The future Hall of Fame quarterback doesn't have a no-trade clause, but if the Packers try to trade him and he doesn't want to be traded, he could simply threaten retirement and that would kill any potential deal.
If the front office truly wants to move on from Rodgers, then there's a massive disconnect between what they think and what the players on the roster think.
Ultimately, though, it's all up to Rodgers. The Packers are essentially being held hostage until he finally reveals his decision.
