New year, new head coach, new quarterback. Same results? Some think that will be the story of the 2023 Houston Texans.

The team, which signed DeMeco Ryans as head coach to turn the ship around, will need more time to earn a "respectable" status. At least based on what oddsmakers expect of the upcoming season.

In essence, they hit every Texans fan ready for a new age with a bucket of ice-cold water.

While there aren't many betting odds for divisional winners yet, the Texans are projected to have the worst season in the league. They're only tied with the Arizona Cardinals (via DraftKings).

Take a quick look at the odds to win next year's Super Bowl for each AFC South team:

T-10th. Jaguars +2800

T-28th. Titans +8000

30th. Colts +15000

T-32nd. Texans +20000

The numbers, although disappointing, are unsurprising. Even if the Texans get their quarterback in the 2023 NFL Draft, they're unlikely to find somebody whose game is refined enough to overcome the holes on the roster.

But as long as Houston finds its quarterback and Ryans turns out to be the right hire as head coach, the first step will be taken in the right direction. However, it will take time.

In the meantime, it looks like oddsmakers expect Trevor Lawrence to keep the Jacksonville Jaguars relevant moving forward.

As for the rest of the AFC South, let's just say that second place is wide open.
