Former Packers HC makes strong statement about Aaron Rodgers
Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy had plenty to say about Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers at the NFL Draft combine this week
Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy was asked about Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Wednesday at the NFL Draft combine in Indianapolis.
And McCarthy, who was Rodgers' coach in Green Bay from 2006 to 2018, had plenty to say about his former player.
McCarthy saw Rodgers up close in 2022 when his Cowboys lost to the Packers in Week 10 (Green lost seven out of eight at one point and their lone win during that stretch was against Dallas). And he saw enough from Rodgers that he thinks the former NFL MVP still has plenty left in the tank.
"We didn't win the game, that was disappointing," said McCarthy when asked about playing against Rodgers this past season. "I thought Aaron played exceptionally well that night. I don't recall, [but] I think he hit all his throws. A competitive game, but I still think Aaron is playing top-level football."
McCarthy knows Rodgers as well as anyone. And while he was never going to take a shot at Rodgers' abilities, he sounds pretty convinced that Rodgers can still play at an MVP level.
And if that's truly the case, then the Packers better hope he returns to Green Bay in 2023. There's little chance that Jordan Love will ever be able to match what Rodgers has accomplished in his career. And he probably isn't going to play at the same level in 2023 that Rodgers will play at (if he chooses to play).
If Rodgers wants to return to the Packers, then Green Bay needs to be all-in with him. They might as well squeeze every bit of production out of the future Hall of Famer as they can.
