Colts have eyes on veteran quarterback
The move would make a lot of sense.
The Indianapolis Colts are in search of a quarterback. That much is clear, especially after officially releasing Matt Ryan earlier this week.
Indianapolis has struggled to find stability behind center since Andrew Luck abruptly retired in 2019. The Colts have consistently dipped into the veteran quarterback market in hopes of finding somebody to fill the role.
Unfortunately, that has not worked. Which is the reason why the team is expected to address the roster need in the first-round of the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft. Such a move may finally give the Colts what they so desperately need.
In the meantime, there is the possibility that the Colts still add a veteran signal caller to the roster in free agency. And it appears that head coach Shane Steichen already has his eyes one passer that is available.
Gardner Minshew is reportedly a name of interest for the Colts. It makes sense, given that Minshew just played for Steichen with the Philadelphia Eagles this past season.
That connection should make the Colts a viable landing spot for Minshew as he looks for his next team. He has proven to be a capable quarterback in his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Eagles.
From the Colts' perspective, Minshew would bring valuable experience to the QB room. Additionally, he already knows the offense well, which could pay off significantly for the rookie passer that Indianapolis takes.
Steichen will look to implement his culture and offense quickly with the Colts. Minshew should be able to help in that regard while also providing a potential bridge quarterback for Indianapolis.
It makes sense for both parties and is something to watch as the Colts make more moves and decisions during the free agency period.
