Bears GM eyes key role for veteran free agent addition
Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles believes one free agent addition will serve in a key role for the 2023 season.
Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles made his expectations known for one of the team’s newest free agent signings.
On Wednesday, the Bears signed veteran running back Travis Homer to a two-year deal. Homer was drafted in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks, where he spent his first four seasons in the NFL.
Homer, 24, was a key role player for the Seahawks, featuring as a core special teamer while filling in at running back as needed.
On Thursday, Poles outlined his expectations for Homer’s role with Chicago.
“Travis is an important addition to our team because he brings a veteran presence to our running back room and will be a key player for us on special teams.”
Poles went on to say that he has loved Homer since his college days at the University of Miami.
Homer has 83 career rushes for 453 yards and a touchdown. He’s a reliable pass-catching option out of the backfield as well with 52 career catches for 464 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Homer has forced two fumbles on special teams and recovered three. He also has experience as a kickoff returner and even returned an onside kick for a 44-yard touchdown in 2022.
