Cowboys re-sign backup QB Cooper Rush
The Cowboys secure depth at key position.
The Dallas Cowboys continue to bring back their in-house free agents.
After re-signing safety Donovan Wilson, linebacker Leighton Vander Esch, and special teams ace C.J. Goodwin, the Cowboys have inked a two-year deal for backup quarterback Cooper Rush worth $6 million.
Rush gets a $2.73 million fully guaranteed for 2023.
Dallas won 12 games in 2022, but that wouldn't have been possible without the efforts of Rush.
Dak Prescott suffered a broken thumb in the season opener and missed five games. Rush wasn't masterful by any means, but he won four of those five starts and helped the Cowboys get to a 4-2 record before Prescott returned.
Rush completed 94 of his 162 passes (58%) for 1,051 yards and five touchdowns with three interceptions last season.
The only other start of Rush's career came in 2021 against the Minnesota Vikings when Prescott was out with a calf strain. Rush threw for 325 yards and two touchdowns which included a game-winning 13-play drive.
Depth is key in the NFL and the Cowboys just got that at the most important position.
