Former Green Bay WR Allen Lazard throws shade at Packers after signing with Jets
Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard signed a free-agent deal with the New York Jets this week
Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard signed a four-year deal with the New York Jets this week.
The deal is reportedly worth $44 million.
Lazard is expected to join Aaron Rodgers in New York, though Rodgers hasn't been traded yet by the Packers (the expectation, however, is that he will be).
On Friday, Lazard met with reporters in New York. And he threw some shade at the Packers during his media session.
Lazard told reporters that Green Bay didn't show any interest in bringing him back in 2023.
"They didn't seem like they were going to miss me too much," Lazard quipped.
It's not a surprise that the Packers didn't re-sign Lazard. The only way that was happening would've been if Rodgers stuck around in Green Bay. Once it was evident that Rodgers wasn't returning in 2023, Lazard pretty much had 31 other options to consider.
Lazard's comments, combined with Rodgers' recent comments about doing right by longtime former Packers, suggest that there's a major disconnect between the Green Bay front office and the players.
If that's the case, then it's something that needs to get fixed fast. Once that narrative is out there, it can be hard for a franchise to overcome. And it could certainly hurt the Packers' pursuit of top players in the future.
