Every story needs a reunion.

After the Eagles locked up the cornerback position, the focus shifts to the safety slot on the field. The likelihood of bringing back C.J. Gardner-Johnson feels unlikely as the days go on. So, to make up for his loss, Philadelphia should look to a familiar face — Jalen Mills.

Proverbially known as the Green Goblin, Mills was released by the New England Patriots earlier on Friday. The move was made in a cap-saving endeavor by the Patriots. But one team's discards can be another's treasure. And Mills can turn into a real treasure for the Eagles again.

Mills played corner for a long stretch of his career in Philadelphia. But in 2020, he made the shift over to safety.

When he made it to New England, he shifted back to the corner position. But that is beside the point. What Mills represents is versatility. And that is something head coach Nick Sirianni loves in his defensive backs.

When Mills played safety in 2020, he enjoyed a career year. He racked up 4 total tackles, five QB hits, three passes defended, one interception, and one forced fumble, plus 1.5 sacks, which are the only sacks of his career. Imagine the Eagles' defense if he had a productive season like that again in 2023.

Still dawning green hair, the Green Goblin returning to Philadelphia doesn't feel completely out of the question.
