The Indianapolis Colts continue to search for a bonafide franchise quarterback. Something that the franchise has truly been lacking since Andrew Luck decided to hang his cleats up.

Shane Steichen was hired due to his offensive mind. He was the offensive coordinator with the Philadelphia Eagles over the past couple of seasons. The Eagles were one of the most dynamic offenses in football on the way to a Super Bowl appearance.

Finding the quarterback to build the offense around is crucial. The Colts did sign Gardner Minshew, but that is expected to be a bridge quarterback or even backup signal caller situation.

Which means the door is open for the Colts to make a big splash at the position. Because former MVP signal caller Lamar Jackson is still available and has not signed a new deal with any team – the Baltimore Ravens included.

Compensation to acquire Jackson is a lot. The team that signs Jackson not only has to give the quarterback an offer that the Ravens won't want to match, but they also are required to give the Ravens multiple first-round picks, too.

Still, Jackson's talent makes it worthwhile. He would be a seamless fit into Steichen's offense and the dynamic ability of he and Jonathan Taylor together would create nightmares for offense.

To this point, the expectation is for the Ravens to hold onto Jackson. But that hasn't been done yet. Therefore, the Indianapolis Colts would be wise to do their due diligence on the situation.

Especially since they likely won't get their first choice at quarterback through the draft with the Carolina Panthers and rival Houston Texans sitting at the top of the order.

This is an opportunity for Chris Ballard to put matters into his own hands and be aggressive at the most important position in the sport.
