The Dallas Cowboys shocked everyone when they traded for five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Stephon Gilmore and wide receiver Brandin Cooks last week.
Dallas had made several signings in free agency, but they've all been of the in-house variety, most noticeably safety Donovan Wilson and linebacker Leighton Vander Esch.
That could be changing soon as the Cowboys are set to host running back Ronald Jones, linebacker Travin Howard, and offensive lineman Chuma Edoga according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.
Jones graduated from Mckinney North high school just 35 minutes from the Dallas area. He was a second-round pick out of USC by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018.
Jones spent four years in Tampa, and his best season came in 2020 when he rushed for 978 yards and seven touchdowns in 13 starts and helped the Buccaneers win the Super Bowl. Last season, Jones won a championship with the Kansas City Chiefs but only appeared in six games as he was the fourth guy on the running back depth chart.
If signed, Jones's tough running style between the tackles could be a nice mix with Tony Pollard and his speed.
Howard grew up two hours from Dallas in Longview, Texas, and played his college ball at TCU in Fort Worth, Texas which is right down the road from where the Cowboys play in Arlington.
Howard was a stud for the Horned Frogs as a two-time first-team All-Big 12 performer. He's spent his entire five-year career with Los Angeles Rams, meaning he has ties to John Fassel, the Cowboys' special teams coordinator.
Injuries have plagued Howard throughout his NFL career which has limited him to just 203 defensive snaps. He's done most of his work on special teams (564 snaps).
Edoga was a third-round pick of the New York Jets in 2019. He has versatility in being able to play tackle on the right or left side, and can also slide inside and play guard.
A knee injury hobbled Edoga last season with the Atlanta Falcons, but his only work was playing 55 snaps at left guard, a position the Cowboys can use another body at.
