The Dallas Cowboys are switching Isaac Alarcón's position to defensive lineman ahead of the 2023 season, a source confirms to A to Z Sports. Since the Mexican player arrived at Dallas through the International Player Pathway Program, Alarcón has played offensive line in the practice squad.

Following the 2022 season, HC Mike McCarthy revealed the team had used Alarcón as a defensive lineman in the scout team and mentioned he was impressed with his work ethic.

Clearly, the 24-year-old impressed the coaching staff enough for him to earn an opportunity at a new position.

It's a big year for Alarcón as he no longer will be protected by the "international player" exemption. Thanks to his status in the IPP program, the Cowboys were able to keep him as a member of the offseason 90-man roster and in the practice squad without him counting toward the player limit.

After all, the goal of the program is to develop players from around the world.

Now, Isaac will fight for his spot on the Cowboys every single time he takes the practice field. This isn't any different from his previous years in the NFL. But this time, he'll have to do so in a position he didn't play in high school or in college football.

Alarcón has worked with renowned OL coach Duke Manyweather for a few years now but will now have to focus on defense. It's safe to say he's got the necessary tools to take on the daunting task.

Alarcón is 6-foot-7 and weighs 320 pounds, per the team's roster.

Alarcón is widely followed in Mexico after having a very accomplished football career in college. He represented the country in world tournaments and played for one of the best programs in Mexico's collegiate football, the Monterrey Borregos.

He was a featured player on HBO's Hard Knock show in 2021, which grew his popularity among American fans as well. He's become a fan favorite thanks to his charisma and impressive size and athleticism.

"The NFL is filled with tremendous freaky athletes and ridiculous talent," Duke Manyweather told A to Z Sports in 2021. "(Isaac) is one of those freaks."
