Chiefs could easily lose WR JuJu Smith-Schuster to AFC foe
That honestly wouldn’t be good for the Chiefs.
The Kansas City Chiefs had a complete roster re-vamp when it came to their receiving corps last season. The only guy from the 2021 season on this Super Bowl roster, as a receiver that is, was Mecole Hardman, and he may not be here in 2023.
The Chiefs added several new guys, and somehow, it worked. JuJu Smith-Schuster was the Chiefs' best receiver last season and revitalized his career with Patrick Mahomes throwing him the ball.
Unfortunately, he signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs, and could easily be somewhere else next season. Sure, he could come back if the Chiefs prioritize that. But, it feels like he could be somewhere else.
In fact, Mike Jones of The Athletic thinks Smith-Schuster could be with the Baltimore Ravens next season, especially if Lamar Jackson ends up returning as a Raven.
If Lamar Jackson stays, the Ravens need to upgrade his supporting cast. Former divisional rival Smith-Schuster, who just came up big in the Super Bowl for Kansas City, could help fill a void.
Losing Smith-Schuster wouldn't be great, but, I wouldn't be too worried. The Chiefs like what they see in Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore as being their guys this next season. And, they will likely take a guy in the draft at the receiver position.
Also, I think it's worth mentioning the Chiefs are predicted to be heavy suitors to sign Michael Thomas when and if he is cut by the Saints.
The Chiefs will make it work, just like they always do. If we are being honest, Jackson needs Smith-Schuster more than Mahomes does. That isn't a slight at Jackson either, it's just that he doesn't have any weapons other than Mark Andrews.
Mahomes can turn a guy into a weapon, and we will likely see that in 2023.
