All-Pro free agent would be interested in signing with Bengals
The former first-round pick name drops Cincinnati as a possible destination.
In the year 2023, the Cincinnati Bengals are viewed as a contending team. That matters for potential free agents.
One of those free agents is cornerback Patrick Peterson.
As a 12-year veteran and three-time All-Pro defensive back, Peterson is looking to join his third team after spending two years with the Minnesota Vikings.
In an appearance on the Adam Schefter Podcast, Peterson name-dropped the Bengals as a team he'd be down to sign with.
"I really like what the what the Bengals have," Peterson said. "They have a quarterback they have a great establishment on the offensive side of the ball. I know Eli Apple is going to be a free agent coming up you know I feel I can come in there and help those guys."
It's not just the quality of team the Bengals have, it's the opportunity to play late in the year against the best teams in the league. Cincinnati has played the Kansas City Chiefs in back-to-back postseasons and two additional times in the regular season. They'll meet again at least once this year.
"Obviously you're going to be going going up against another high quality quarterback in the playoffs almost each and every year against Patty Mahomes. You know, so you're gonna need some quality cover guys that can kind of keep those guys in check."
Despite his age, Peterson is a classic Bengals free agent signing, especially at the cornerback position. First-round picks have usually dominated the position group. Adam Jones, Nate Clements, Eli Apple, and many more have become free agent signees of the club as former first-rounders.
Peterson's eight-time Pro Bowl resume makes him the best of the crop.
Cornerback will definitely be a need for the Bengals if Chidobe Awuzie's recovery from his torn ACL takes longer than expected. Apple, like Peterson mentioned, is a free agent as well.
