The Minnesota Vikings will return one of its key starters from the 2022 season.

Adam Caplan reports that the Vikings have reached an agreement with ILB to restructure his contract for the 2023 season.

In his first season with Minnesota, Hicks registered 17 starts compiling 129 tackles, three sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and two tackles for loss. His 10 passes defensed put him in a tie with S Harrison Smith for second on the team.

Hicks signed to a two-year deal with Minnesota last offseason and would have accounted for a $6.5 million cap hit had the team not restricted his contract. The details aren’t yet known, though a pay cut and adding dummy years to lessen his cap hit are both in play.

This is a good start to the free agency period for the Vikings who will retain one of the NFL’s best run defenders at the linebacker position.
