Cowboys: Key roster need just became even bigger priority
The position has to be addressed in a meaningful way.
So far in the early stages of free agency, the Dallas Cowboys have not been very active. There has not really been much action from the organization outside re-signing safety Donovan Wilson.
Dallas is working on a deal with Leighton Vander Esch. On the flip side, offensive guard Connor McGovern and linebacker Luke Gifford have signed elsewhere, heading to the Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans, respectively.
Now, the Cowboys have seen another contributor ink with a different organization in free agency. And this time, it's at one of the biggest roster needs.
Noah Brown has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Houston Texans. He is set to sign a one-year contract to remain in the Lone Star State — just with the other NFL franchise.
Which means that the need at wideout is even more important for the Dallas Cowboys to address. Brown emerged as a starter this past season, largely due to the lack of talent and depth behind CeeDee Lamb out wide.
Brown took advantage of most of his opportunities, but it was already clear that the Cowboys needed a boost at pass catcher. With him out of town, Dallas must look into adding a receiver through free agency and then again in the draft.
Odell Beckham Jr. is a player that continues to be linked to the Dallas Cowboys. With that said, other teams will be in the mix and it remains to be seen where he is in his recovery.
Noah Brown isn't the biggest roster loss in the world, but it does emphasize that the Cowboys must absolutely add pass catchers to the roster this offseason. The team cannot afford to ignore the position before next season.
