The Steelers know they need help at the inside linebacker position. The whole NFL knows that, and those who attended Clemson's pro day, definitely know that.

The Steelers currently held the 17th and 32nd overall picks, two selections that would be first-rounders in a normal year, but there are only 31 due to Miami's first-round forfeiture

While it's uncertain what Pittsburgh will do with either selection, there is growing support that one of the picks will involve Clemson linebacker Trenton Simpson.

I know what you thinking. "Ok, so coach T appreciates his jumping ability, big deal."

But as discussed in an earlier piece, the number of high-level staffers from Pittsburgh who traveled to South Carolina does not go unnoticed.

As if that wasn't enough evidence about the intrigue between Pittsburgh and Simpson, perhaps a steak dinner will butter you up.

Now, the legal tampering period is nearly over and free agency officially begins tomorrow the 15th. The truth is, most of the top players, and an assortment of mid-tier linebackers have already agreed with terms, officially being allowed to sign tomorrow.

And how many plan on putting to pen with Pittsburgh? As of now:

Zero.

With plenty of time left, things can and probably should change on that front, but it all confirms a matter of when not if the Steelers select an inside linebacker in April's draft.

Simpson sit's 39th on the consensus board, putting him within range of the top pick in the second round.

But a little birdy says that the Giants are also very high on Simpson, and they hold the 25th overall pick, potentially taking Simpson off the board for Pittsburgh.

Even with Simpson acing the pre-draft process to this point, and the clear admiration from the Steelers, taking an inside linebacker at 17th overall is quite rich considering the need at corner and offensive line.

That means the next few days will be very telling for the Steelers.

They have already signed one stud corner and added depth on the offensive line in free agency, helping sure up deficiencies in those units.

But they are treating linebacker like the gum on the bottom of your shoe.

So it's your move Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin, don't worry though, only the whole NFL is watching.
