Texans showing heavy interest in Pro Bowler
The Texans could be close to making a major upgrade at a position of need.
The Texans attempted to land Pro Bowl linebacker Leighton Vander Esch on Tuesday, before ultimately being outbid by the Cowboys.
However, NFL insider Aaron Wilson is reporting that the team has shifted to targeting a different Pro Bowler.
Wilson reports that the Texans have "strong interest" in free agent LB Denzel Perryman.
Wilson adds that the team will host Perryman for a free agent visit on Thursday.
Perryman has spent his entire eight-year career in the AFC West. The first six seasons were spent with the Chargers before signing on with the Raiders before the 2021 season.
Perryman's first season with the Raiders in 2021 was his best season as a pro. The veteran was selected to the Pro Bowl and finished the season with 154 tackles.
In 2022, Perryman was limited to 11 games after suffering a labrum injury that required surgery. Before the injury, Perryman collected 83 tackles, two interceptions, and five quarterback hits.
Wilson is reporting that Perryman expects to be cleared for the injury in April.
Currently the Texans have Christian Kirksey and Blake Cashman on the roster at the middle linebacker spot. Adding a tackling machine like Perryman to the middle of the defense could go a long way to improving the Texans' porous run defense from 2022.
