The Chicago Bears sign QB with starting experience
The Chicago Bears bolster the depth at quarterback with its latest signing.
The Chicago Bears are adding some much-needed depth at the quarterback position with its latest signing.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Bears have signed QB P.J. Walker to back up Justin Fields. Walker’s contract with Chicago is reportedly a two-year deal.
The move makes plenty of sense for Chicago. Not only does Walker have a similar playing style to Fields, but he also built a nice rapport with newly acquired WR D.J. Moore in their time together with the Carolina Panthers.
Walker connected with Moore on what many consider to be the most incredible play from the 2022 season.
Walker spent his first three seasons in Carolina prior to signing with the Bears. He has played in 15 games, starting in seven, and has a career record of 4-3 in those starts.
The 28-year-old signal caller has passed for 1,461 yards and five touchdowns in his NFL career. He brings a 57.5 completion percentage to Chicago, but has thrown 11 interceptions as well.
The Bears’ brass has spent a chunk of the offseason committing to Fields as the starter and signing Walker backs that up. Walker serves as a capable backup who has experience winning games in the NFL if Fields is to miss any time.
It’s not a flashy signing, but it’s one that adds depth at the most important position in all of professional sports.
