The New Orleans Saints owned the headlines on Monday in the NFL. They signed veteran quarterback Derek Carr to four-year deal worth $37.5 million per year.

On Tuesday, the New York Giants snatched some of those headlines away with a couple of moves. They signed QB Daniel Jones to a four-year extension and franchise tagged running back Saquon Barkley. Jones' deal is an expensive one – as it averages $40 million per year with an extra $35 million in incentives.

The deal proved that the Saints' agreement with Carr made plenty of sense at the price.

The Saints got a cheaper deal for amore proven QB than the Giants did in this case. Carr gives his offense greater upside than Jones does for New York, but Carr is 31 while Jones is only 25. That may have played a role in the two contracts, too.

Regardless, the Saints have to like where they are at when it comes to the QB market.

As you look around the NFL, Jones got a massive extension that many think is an overpay.

The Baltimore Ravens are struggling to get a contract extension done with Lamar Jackson. Jimmy Garoppolo, Baker Mayfield, and others sit in free agency as veteran options that may get a solid contract when it comes to money.

The Saints got out in front of it all by signing Carr. New Orleans felt that he gave them their best chance to continue competing, so they pounced on the opportunity.

As more deals trickle in around the league, the Saints' deal with Carr may continue to look better and better. Jones' deal with the Giants began that campaign.
