The 2023 NFL Scouting Combine is officially in the books.

During the event, Mike Sando of The Athletic took the time to interview several NFL executives about the first ten picks of the 2023 NFL Draft. All spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Most of those interviewed think that Bryce Young and CJ Stroud will be the first two players picked. It is seen as likely that the Bears will trade out of the first overall pick.

“I think a trade is more likely than not — I would say 75 percent chance,” said one GM, referring to the first pick.

However, the same is not expected for the Texans' pick.

“I think Nick (Caserio) sits on the pick," said one GM. The consensus among those interviewed was that the Texans will select Bryce Young if they keep the second pick and if he is available.

If a team does trade with the Bears to draft Young, it is then expected that the Texans would select Stroud.

“I think the first two picks are Young and Stroud,” this GM said. “How they go, where they go, depends on how aggressive these other teams want to be in getting up there.”

An executive from another team picking in the top 10 agrees that the Texans will stay put.

“I can’t see Houston moving up,” said the executive. "I see them gambling that there is a quarterback there at 12.”

The second part of that statement might interest Texans fans. Waiting to address the QB position until the 12th pick would likely be a wildly unpopular move. Young, Stroud, Anthony Richardson, and Will Levis are all expected to be drafted inside of the top 10.

In fact, in the executive mock draft, all four QBs were taken in the top seven picks. This would leave the Texans without an obvious solution at the 12th pick.

The Texans have plenty of options to address the QB position. Staying at two, trading up to one, or even addressing the position in free agency seem to all be on the table.
