Chiefs' Andy Reid and Brett Veach say what's on their mind with Frank Clark
The Kansas City Chiefs just released Pro Bowler Frank Clark, so Andy Reid and Brett Veach get their thoughts off their chest.
The Kansas City Chiefs just released one of their all-time great playoff performers in Frank Clark, who is third all-time in NFL postseason sacks. The move resulted in the Chiefs gaining roughly $21 million in cap space, as they were around $1 million over the cap, per Spotrac.
The Chiefs are going to be looking to rebuild some of their team this offseason to get it back to championship form, but they won't be able to bring everyone back. These things happen to Super Bowl-winning teams all of the time.
So, while we are all sad to see Clark go, it had to happen. Head coach Andy Reid had some words to say after, via Arrowhead Pride.
You were able to see his play on the field, but if you talk to him, you realize how incredible his heart is. Frank gave us all his energy, he invested time in our younger players to help them grow, and it just shows you how passionate he is about the game. He’ll always be a part of our history here and we appreciate the work he put in to help get us there.
Frank Clark finished his Chiefs' career if it is indeed done, with 23.5 sacks as a Chief. He currently sits at 26th on the active sack leaders list with 58.5. What the Chiefs saw in Seattle, as he had 13 sacks in 2018, is what made Brett Veach want to snag him for Kansas City.
It’s really hard to put into words what Frank has meant to our organization over the last four seasons. When we traded for him before the 2019 season, he came here with the goal of winning championships. We went to three Super Bowls in four seasons and won two of those, and there is no doubt that Frank was a significant part of bringing those Lombardi Trophies to Kansas City. ‘The Shark’ cemented his legacy here in Chiefs Kingdom with his play and his personality. These decisions are never easy, but we wish him the best as he continues his career.
Clark had just as big of an impact on the Chiefs' two Super Bowl wins as any other player not named Patrick Mahomes. In his first playoff run with the Chiefs, when they won the Super Bowl in 2019, he recorded five postseason sacks in five games.
Now, three Super Bowl appearances, and two Super Bowl win later, Clark will always be a Kansas City Chiefs legend.
