Vikings waive once-promising starter
The Minnesota Vikings waive one starter that showed plenty of promise early on in his tenure with the team.
The Minnesota Vikings are parting ways with cornerback Cameron Dantzler after three years with the team.
Dantzler showed plenty of promise in his rookie season, but his role on the defense diminished over the last two seasons. The third-rounder in the 2020 draft struggled with injuries and consistency in 2022.
By releasing Dantzler, Minnesota creates $2.743 million in salary cap space.
Dantzler played in 35 games, logging 26 starts, with the Vikings. He compiled 149 tackles, 17 passes defensed, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries in his short tenure with the team.
Along with Dantzler, Patrick Peterson is also set to hit free agency leaving the Vikings thin at cornerback.
Duke Shelley showed flashes during 2022, but this is certainly a position Minnesota will aim shore up through free agency and the draft.
