The perfect solution to one of the Vikings' biggest questions just became available
The Minnesota Vikings should look into one of the most experienced free agents currently on the market.
The NFL’s free agency period is less than a week away which means the Minnesota Vikings won’t have to wait much longer to begin filling some of the holes along its roster.
One of the Vikings’ needs is at a position of significant value. With center Garrett Bradbury set to test the waters in free agency, Minnesota could be in the market if the team chooses against re-signing him.
Ideally, the Vikings would be able to find a player who can mirror Bradbury’s production, but at a decreased cost. Luckily, a veteran that fits the bill has just become available.
The Tennessee Titans released C Ben Jones on Friday in a move made to create salary cap space. Jones, who will turn 34 years old this offseason, has 11 years of NFL experience.
Widely regarded as one of the toughest players in football, Jones brings a hard-nosed approach in the run game. He has played in 171 games during his career, including 151 starts, and has been a model of consistency in his seven seasons with the Titans. Jones made his first Pro Bowl last season, so he’s not some aging player in a steep decline by any means.
Due to his age, Jones will not break the bank if the Vikings opt to bring him in. His veteran presence would fit perfectly in the Vikings’ locker room. Signing Jones to a one-year deal gives the Vikings an opportunity to groom his successor if they wind up drafting a center, or bridging the gap to a long-term solution at the position.
