Seattle Seahawks a logical landing spot for Titans running back Derrick Henry

Tennessee Titans star running back Derrick Henry was billed as a ‘fit’ for the Seattle Seahawks should a blockbuster trade take place.

There is one way the Seattle Seahawks' offseason could get even better, trade for Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry.

And if you ask CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin, it is a move that makes sense.

“Whenever he’s on the field, Henry carries Tennessee’s offense; to this day, no one matches his combo of size (6-3, 245), speed, and experience at the position,” writes Benjamin. “But he’s topped 300 carries in three of his last four seasons, suffering a serious injury in between. In other words, the wear and tear is there. The Titans are in a rebuilding phase, or at least should be, and can save $6.3M by dealing the big man, who’s entering a contract year."

If the Seahawks make a move for Henry, it would be safe to assume that breakout backfield star Kenneth Walker III would be out of the picture. Thus, Seattle, though a "logical" destination, wouldn't make much sense for Henry.

Having the pieces to make a trade, which Seattle possesses, wouldn't mean the move would make sense for either party.

Walker, in 2022, finished 11th in carries (228), 12th in rushing yards (1,050), and tied for 10th in rushing touchdowns (nine). Trading him away, or any part of the team's future for Henry, who is closer to the end of his road as an NFL pro, wouldn't make sense.

It would be a move that indicates Seattle is more concerned about a name instead of production.

The reason for the rise in Henry rumors is that the running back was reportedly being shopped by the franchise, as Tennessee continues to attempt to retool following a disappointing 2022.

“According to my sources — all of them current general managers — Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry, Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey and Arizona Cardinals receiver DeAndre Hopkins are among the players who’ve been shopped in recent days,” Mike Silver of Bally Sports wrote early in March.

Still, Henry remains an intriguing idea. Albeit it he is just an idea. Seattle is at a different point in its life cycle as a team than where Henry is as a player. And though his name is enticing, it is a move that would be shortsighted when examining the larger scope of the Seahawks' roster.
