A key 2024 Tennessee Vols recruiting target has officially set his commitment date.

2024 four-star quarterback Jake Merklinger is one of the Vols' top recruiting targets.

Merklinger, 6-foot-3/195 lbs from Savannah, GA, is ranked in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 6 quarterback in the nation and the No. 9 player in the state of Georgia. He's also rated as the No. 55 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.

On Monday, 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong predicted that Merklinger will commit to Tennessee.

Vols fans won't have to wait long to see if Wiltfong is correct. Merklinger tweeted on Tuesday morning that he plans to announce his commitment on Thursday (March 30) at 12:05 PM ET.

Merklinger told On3 recently that Hendon Hooker's growth under Josh Heupel is a big reason why he's considering Tennessee.

“I have a great relationship with the staff, and I love their quarterback development," said Merklinger. "Seeing Hendon Hooker’s growth under Josh Heupel was awesome."

Georgia, Michigan State, and North Carolina are also in the mix to land the talented quarterback.
