The Dallas Cowboys are clearly looking at the quarterback position ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Even though they re-signed Cooper Rush in free agency, the team is seemingly interested in a developmental option behind Dak Prescott.

The latest example of this is their Tuesday date with Purdue quarterback Aidan O'Connell.

The Cowboys will hold a private workout with the Power 5 quarterback, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

O'Connell has gained heavy interest around the league as he seems to have a very busy calendar that involves visits, workouts, or Zooms with about half the teams in the league, per Pelissero's report.

The Purdue quarterback was declared one of the biggest winners of this year's East-West Shrine Bowl Game featuring many of the top prospects for the NFL Draft.

In 2022, O'Connell was second in the Big Ten as he passed for 3,490 yards. He also threw for 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

Although most project him to be a Day 3 target for many teams in this year's NFL Draft, O'Connell has certainly made himself a group of fans.

Pro Football Network's Tony Pauline wrote this in January about the quarterback the Cowboys are working out while revealing some scouts look at him as the best QB of the class:

"O’Connell combines the leadership skills and field vision of Young with many of the same physical gifts Stroud and Levis bring to the game. They point to his two-year stewardship as the Boilermakers QB, in which O’Connell accrued 17 victories and a trip to the Big Ten title game. Scouts love the poise, maturity, and leadership O’Connell brings to the field."

The Purdue quarterback, a no-star recruit out of high school, is no stranger to adversity, in sports or out of them. He lost his oldest brother during the 2022 season.

The Cowboys' workout with O'Connell won't necessarily be a Top-30 visit. Usually, visits don't involve workouts.
