Tennessee Vols redshirt senior tight end Jacob Warren made a comment on Tuesday that every player on UT's roster needs to hear.

And it was a statement that should set the tone for the 2023 season.

Warren, who spoke to reporters after Tennessee's fifth spring practice, referenced the Vols' incredibly successful 2022 season. And he made it clear that success in 2023 will have nothing to do with what happened in 2022.

"Man, last year's over," said Warren to reporters. "We had a good year last year — a great year last year. Understanding that we can't just show up and that happen again, right? We gotta put the work in — last year's team put a lot of work in to get where we were. So being able to match that. Or put in more work and understanding that it's not just going to get handed to us because we had a good year last year."

It would be really easy for Tennessee's players to just assume that the 2023 season is going to be special just because of what happened in 2022.

But that's obviously not how football works. Just as Warren said on Tuesday, the Vols will have to put in just as much work this season — if not more work — in order to have the same level of success (or greater) in 2023.

The fact that Warren is making comments like the ones he made on Tuesday should have Tennessee fans feeling confident that the mindset of the 2023 Volunteers is in the right place.

And that certainly bodes well for Tennessee in Josh Heupel's third season leading the program.
