The Cincinnati Bengals have a front-row seat for one of the biggest stories in the NFL this offseason.
Cincinnati's AFC North division rivals, the Baltimore Ravens, are in quite a situation when it comes to their quarterback situation.
Former NFL MVP Lamar Jackson wants a new contract and so far, he hasn't been able to secure it from the Ravens. Jackson can negotiate with other teams after the Ravens placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on him. But it doesn't appear that quarterback-needy teams are jumping to make the former Heisman Trophy winner an offer.
It's bizarre to see a former league MVP fail to generate any interest — especially considering how tough it is to find a franchise quarterback in the NFL.
One reason is likely because the Ravens can simply match any offer made to Jackson. Still, it's surprising that no one has flirted with the idea of trying to sign Jackson.
On Wednesday evening, Bengals defensive lineman DJ Reader, who has played against Jackson numerous times, took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the drama in Baltimore.
"People really don’t understand how good 8 is man," tweeted Reader. "No way they can be watching the same football games I’m watching. It’s impossible."
Reader also retweeted a tweet that free agent safety Kareem Jackson sent in support of Lamar Jackson (Reader and Kareem Jackson were teammates with the Houston Texans at one point).
No one knows how that situation in Baltimore will play out, but one thing is certain — getting Lamar Jackson out of the AFC North would be a good thing for the Bengals.
