The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have to make one thing a priority going into the 2023 season.
The 2022 season featured a lot of Tom Brady passing the ball, and even with the greatest to ever do it, there were still some major flaws. The roster on that side of the ball wasn't perfect but it was good, on paper anyways.
You have Brady, even if he was 45 years old, Mike Evans, one of the best receivers in the league and a future Hall of Famer, and Chris Godwin, the best number two guy in the league. Of course, there were other pieces too, but those are the core group of guys.
There was one thing they failed to do during a period of time in the 2023 season – getting those two receivers the ball in the end zone consistently.
"We have to make that a priority," Todd Bowles told the media. "Obviously, I think we made it a priority last year. Sometimes it was shut down, sometimes we just misread it here and there. Whether it was on the receiver or the o-linemen, we got to get better in that area and get him the football. We know he's a threat and we know he's a great player. So we got to constantly find ways, not just him, but Chris [Godwin], as well. So, we got to find ways to get those guys the ball."
Going into Week 5 of the 2022 season, Mike Evans had three touchdowns and didn't even play in Week 3. However, he didn't score another touchdown till Week 16 when he had three. As for Godwin, he didn't catch his first touchdown till Week 10 and only had three the entire season.
That is exactly what Bowles is talking about, and he is completely right – getting those two in the end zone more has to be a big priority, especially coming into a season that has as much unknown as this one.
