The New Orleans Saints have a future Hall of Famer on their defensive line in edge rusher Cam Jordan, and linebacker Demario Davis is one of the better players at his position.
On the third level of the Saints' defense, they have had another steady presence, and that's cornerback Marshon Lattimore. He is a former Defensive Rookie of the Year and has received four Pro Bowl nods in six seasons.
Pro Football Focus recently listed the best in the business at the cornerback position. Lattimore came in at No.7 between Stephon Gilmore and Trevon Diggs of the Dallas Cowboys.
"Since Lattimore entered the NFL, his best play has always stacked up with the top cornerbacks in the game. Even last season, his best game — a 93.4 overall grade — came in Week 17 against the Philadelphia Eagles, albeit with Gardner Minshew at quarterback. Lattimore’s issue has always been inconsistency, and despite notching 32 pass breakups over the past three seasons, he has also allowed 15 touchdowns."-Sam Monson, PFF
Lattimore plays a tough position, it's hard being on an island, especially with the receiver talent in today's NFL, so yes, he gives up plays at times. However, Lattimore has not only shown the ability to play excellent coverage on the outside but he's slid inside for 264 snaps as well.
The former first-round pick logged no less than 11 pass breakups in his first five seasons and no less than 52 tackles. However, a lacerated kidney cost him 10 games so his production wasn't as good in 2022, but when he played he still showed some juice.
Lattimore has been a pretty good ball hawk during his career with 14 interceptions, five forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries. Also, he's put up 78 pass breakups, which would have been closer to 90 if not for his injury last season based on his pace in his first five years.
He's not perfect, but who is? But Lattimore is one thing, a very good football player.
