The Chicago Bears turned the page at the running back position this offseason by signing D'Onta Foreman to a one-year deal worth $2 million. Though the deal appears meager on the surface, Foreman has a chance to reel in some extra cash with a productive season out of the Bears' backfield.

Built into Foreman's new contract is $1 million in available incentives. In order to fatten his pockets further, Foreman must first meet certain criteria to become eligible to receive the bonus bucks.

Let's take a look at the objectives Foreman must complete to capitalize on some extra coin.

IncentiveReward

1,000 or more yards rushing

$250,000

1,000 or more yards rushing + team makes playoffs

$75,000

1,200 or more yards rushing

$250,000

1,200 or more yards rushing + team makes playoffs

$75,000

1,500 or more yards rushing

$250,000

6 or more rushing TDs

$100,000

Some of those benchmarks are more achievable than others, but Foreman is coming off a 2022 campaign in which he totaled 914 rushing yards in 17 games, but logged just six starts with the Carolina Panthers. He will be competing for touches with Khalil Herbert and rookie Roschon Johnson to make things even more difficult.

At the end of the day, Chicago would gladly fork over the extra money if it means the team receives a postseason berth. While a 1,500-yard season feels out of reach, Foreman could absolutely flirt with a 1,200-yard year, which would hopefully put the Bears in playoff contention.

Foreman isn't breaking the bank even if he somehow manages to meet each requirement in 2023. For a sixth-year running back looking to show the league he can be an everyday starter, Foreman already has all the incentive that he needs for a breakout season.
