Bills Mafia, things aren't looking good.
With each passing day, we get more information and developments in the DeAndre Hopkins sweepstakes. Those who are hoping the Bills will land Hopkins won't be too happy with the announcement.
However, not all is lost. The recent report is just an indication that currently, it's looking like the Buffalo Bills are out of the mix to sign Hopkins. That being said, things can drastically change overnight.
Despite Hopkins posting a few emojis on his Instagram story and then mentioning the cold, which rightfully so riled up the fanbase, it has been announced that the Bills are a long shot to land Hopkins.
Specifically, Tim Graham from The Athletic wrote about the situation Buffalo finds themselves in and how it doesn't seem likely Brandon Beane will be able to pull off another impressive offseason move.
Three executives from around the NFL, some with direct knowledge of what the free-agent receiver wants in his next contract, inform The Athletic the Bills simply don’t have enough salary-cap room to accommodate Hopkins’ terms.
Furthermore, Graham highlighted that Buffalo may not even need Hopkins services if Gabriel Davis can take a big leap. He then tied in how Buffalo spent important draft capital in the first round on a weapon for Allen in Dalton Kincaid. Put plainly, maybe Buffalo doesn't need an aging wide receiver on the roster, is what Graham expresses in his article.
Brandon Beane is seemingly up against the wall in terms of cap space but could maneuver, if need be, to sign Hopkins. Greg Tompsett, a salary cap wizard from Cover One, dove into the different ways the Buffalo Bills GM could manipulate the cap and find the space to sign Hopkins.
Again, it's a longshot Buffalo signs Hopkins, especially if the price is too high. Regardless of whether the team has Hopkins or not, they have one of the best offenses in football.
Here's hoping that even without a DeAndre Hopkins on the roster, Ken Dorsey can overcome some year-one struggles and put an effective and high-powered product on the football field.
