The Kansas City Chiefs could be in for a huge season in 2023 from Kadarius Toney.

When Matt Nagy, the Chiefs' new offensive coordinator, but for the second time with the organization, stood at the podium and semi-dodged the question asked about Toney, everyone kind of knew what was possibly happening.

Now, all of this is speculation, but Nagy was asked if Toney can potentially be the top guy on the team in terms of the receiver room, basically, he was asked about being a WR1, but he didn't really answer the question.

Instead, this was his answer:

"Well, I think we all see what he can do when a football is in his hands," Nagy told reporters. "And again, the same type of deal. He comes over halfway through the season. It's a whole new offense, he's got to learn the ins and outs. And, so you have that point. And he was able to do that. And it's exciting now for us to be able to take that to year two and build that relationship with Pat. But he's super talented with football on his hands. And he's, he's been that way his entire life and his football career."

The Chiefs have special plans in store for KT, but if I had to guess, they are doing what they always do – try to keep everything under wraps as much as possible. There have been a ton of reports that the Chiefs think Toney can be a wide receiver one, from multiple different sources.

It also makes sense he would dance around the question with the DeAndre Hopkins situation currently at hand. Hopkins is a free agent and could go pretty much anywhere, and it has been reported several times that the Chiefs are a front-runner.

Saying KT is a WR1 could scare away Hopkins. Sure, it could also be something he would be interested in, but I see it as if this answer was an intentional dodge, that could be a very good reason why.

Toney definitely has the skills to be a WR1, which is why the Chiefs aren't in a frenzy or worried about necessarily grabbing a top guy like Hopkins or Odell Beckham Jr. The only thing keeping KT from being that is injuries, which is a big thing for him. He struggled with some last season and has so far every year of his NFL career. This is definitely something to watch for going forward though.
